Statutory Authority: RSA 270-D:10, 270-D:14 & 270-D:15

In 2002 the State of New Hampshire enacted a new law that pertains to boat operation and boating safety on state waters. This law requires that all persons possess a certificate of boating safety education when operating a motorized vessel with any type of power motor in excess of 25 horsepower on the public waters of New Hampshire.

Note: The State of New Hampshire certificate is not required if you can produce proof that you hold a NASBLA approved safety certificate from another state.

Yes. Anchor Marine Corporation is certified by the New Hampshire Department Of Safety to administer an exam and issue a "14 Day Temporary Certificate" upon your arrival to our facility. Reference material cannot be used for the exam and a $15.00 fee is charged to administer the test.  However, if you are renting from us and pass the exam no charge will be incurred. Failure to produce a Safe Boating Certificate from your state or failure to pass the online test upon arrival will result in a forfeiture of your rental and you will be charged for the rental period. In the case of a multi-day rental the charge will be for the first day rental charge only.

A temporary certificate is available only once and will only allow the holder to operate in the State of New Hampshire. An online course, practice exam and more information are available here.

To save time and expedite your check-in we highly recommend that you obtain a permanent certificate prior to your arrival to the Lakes Region.

The Department of Safety, US Power Squadrons, and US Coast Guard Auxiliary all offer NASBLA (National Association of State Boating Law Administrators) approved courses year-round in various locations around the state. Some courses require a fee. Similar courses are available in all 50 states. You can also complete step 1 of the permanent certification here. For a home study option, call 1-800-830-2268.

On January 1, 2007 changes to the law took effect regarding how a permanent safety certificate is obtained. Click here or here for more information.

Once you are certified you have fulfilled the requirements of the law and you will not have to take the course or exam again. IT IS A ONCE IN A LIFETIME REQUIREMENT.
